Home Updates, as Promised

Remember that cool make-over our apartment got over Christmas break? If not, that's ok - here it is! Our apartment manager and maintenance men have been absolutely wonderful to work with! Our apartment is small, and old, but they do their best to keep it up.

Over Christmas break we asked them to do some work on the bathroom and kitchen since it was really starting to look bad. When we were driving back from Albuquerque after New Year's, we got a call from our apartment manager asking if we had a place to stay that night.
. . .  uh, what?!

When doing some work in the bathroom, we found some mold under the vanity, shower, and floor all the way through into the kitchen. We had to pull out the shower, re-cement the base, give you a new vanity, and redo the floor after we cleaned the mold up with some acid.

Oh, that makes perfect sense. Thank you for doing that. We can find a place to stay.

So we ended up going to the Jensen house for the night (and Matt for a few nights). The apartment looks a lot better now though! What do you think?

I apologize for the lack of 'before' picture with the shower. It was a square, white shower with sliding doors that close in the corner. Really old and molding in all the cracks, crevasses, and corners. Apparently every time we stepped on the drain a bit of water seeped into the floor; the drain was in the middle of the shower floor.

We love the updates - it definitely makes our place feel more like home! Thank you Oaks Hills Rentals (and Peter and Ben, our maintenance guys).

Empty Cupboards

Ok, we kinda cheated on this, since we didn't do it ourselves. We recently convinced our landlord/maintenance to do some remodeling on our kitchen, and thus had to move all our things out of the kitchen to allow some space for renovations - and planned on spending the weekend at Jensen Parents so we didn't have to worry about what to eat.

No food - cept for some we still needed to move...

And... this is where it all went.

Yup - lots of stuff! I promise that we don't normally live like this!

AND . . .

Sorry folks, this is going to be anti-climactic for you, as it was for us.

They didn't have time to do all the renovations that they wanted to, so we ended up having all that stuff in our bedroom for over a week while we waited for the new paint on the cupboards to dry, and be able to put all the stuff back. The linoleum, countertops, and back-splash are still awaiting their turn for some TLC - maybe over Thanksgiving or Christmas break? We'll keep you posted.
